About shockwave device therapy
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes high energy sound waves to stimulate the body's natural healing. The therapy can help relieve pain and promote healing in injured tissues (tendons, ligaments, soft tissues and bones). Shockwave therapy increases blood flow, which prompts a break down in scar tissue and the release of growth factors in injured areas.
Shockwave therapy almost acts like having a deep tissue massage but is usually quicker and less painful. Results can sometimes be felt after one session but often times it takes a few treatments to get better resolution and healing of problem areas. The treatment can be felt and usually involves some mild discomfort. However, the intensity and strength can be adjusted to the client's comfort level.
I usually start by getting a hands-on assessment of the body, including tension levels held by various parts of the body. Then I start working the problem areas with massage and afterwards apply the shockwave treatment for 5-10 minutes per problem area. After that I typically re-check the area and do more massage if needed. Together the healing potential is increased and the outlook for pain resolution is good.
